An Engaging Experience

Hello Everyone,
I cannot express how excited I am for the upcoming summit. Thinking about so many LGBT young people coming together for a powerful cause brings a big smile to my face. This summit will provide all of you with the information and confidence to be involved in the LGBT rights movement or even just to try and form an LGBT group in your area, whether it be politically active or a social group. I know I always hate to go to a conference and be talked at by older people who tell me how I can do something and why I should do it. I think we all know why we should be involved in the fight for equality and fairness. Generation 2008 will be an engaging experience. You will not be talked at and overloaded with information. You will be involved in personal discussion about forming groups, what works for different people, and how do get things done effectively. You most of all will have a voice to add to the day. I think it is extremely important for all of us to exchange ideas with our peers and expand our minds to new possibilities. You will make the difference at Generation 2008 and leave the day feeling regenerated and ready to face any obstacle that may come along your path. Please encourage all of your friends to attend with you. If you are coming from out of Columbus we will provide discounted lodging information for you and there is a fun evening/night event out on the town. I hope to see a lot of new faces there eager to discuss what they want to do and listen to others ideas and stories.

Sincerely,
Danielle Doza, OSU

What happened to "Campus Connection"?

ACLU of Ohio ran the Campus Connection Conference for three years. Last year, it was held at the University of Akron and over 100 young college-age leaders attended. ACLU asked Equality Ohio to take over the conference management beginning in 2008, but ACLU wanted to stay supportive and involved. Equality Ohio and the committee planners re-branded this year's conference as "Generation 2008: Our Leaders. Our Future" and it will be more of a "summit" format rather than a traditional "conference". ACLU of Ohio has played an important part on the planning committee for 2008 - and we all think this Summit is going to rock.

Who's this Summit for, anyway?

It's for college-age people working for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) equality. It is for young visionaries. It is for wise young souls with an activist bent. It is for the just-thinking-about-getting-involved. It is for freshman, sophomores, juniors, seniors, graduate and PHD students, but also for non-enrolled world citizens. It is for community college folks and it is for young people who aren't going to school right now. If you are hoping to start a GSA in your campus community, or have been president of your LGBTA group for several years, this Summit is hopefully going to offer something to you - wherever you are in your leadership growth.

It is for those who care about equal rights for LGBT folks and for the queer-at-heart. It is for the current and future leaders of Ohio's equality movement.
